I love Urban Remedy’s Glow juice but I’m not sure I can afford spending $10.95 every time I feel like treating myself to a healthy beverage. To be able to enjoy all the benefits of juicing without breaking bank, I decided to purchase the Hurom Elite Slow Juicer. It’s quiet, easy to use, easy to clean, compact and really does make more juice than my old Breville juice extractor. I bought my Hurom in May and since then, I’ve made at least 300 ounces worth of goodness sans E3 live. That’s almost $200 worth of juice if I priced it similarly to Urban Remedy’s 16oz bottle. I’m still tweaking the recipe and ratios but this is pretty much what the ingredients are: Celery (lots of it), pineapple, cucumber, kale/spinach, and lemon.
As for Kombucha… I have 2 favorites. Brew Dr.’s Clear Mind and Lemon Ginger Cayenne. Their kombucha is lower in sugar than some of the other options, but at 10g per bottle, that’s still pretty high for me. My friend gave me some of her Scoby and so I decided to give it a shot. I bought two 1 gallon kombucha jars (it came with cheesecloth filters, rubberbands and the plastic lids), four 33oz glass bottles with stoppers, and several funnels from amazon. I used whatever tea I could find in my cupboard and followed this recipe from Reddit and after 4 weeks, I have my first brew. One bottle has mint from my friend’s backyard and lemons. The other has mint and plums from my neighbor’s backyard.
